First Dungeons & Dragons Game Ever!

I have been wanting to sign of for D&D my entire life but always felt I’d be out of place and maybe unwelcome. In the past few weeks I finally got up the courage to seek out a group online and I quickly found one that’s walking distance from me.

I had no idea what to expect. Walked up to an office building and into a little office with a large table surrounded by a very kind-looking group of men all about ten years older than me. Dad types with black band t-shirts and stacks of first edition original D&D players hand books in front of them. A plain grid rolled out on the table. Some whiskey. It was cool because I realized I was going to get the OG D&D experience and I think that’s probably the best place to start.

They guys had just finished a 6-month game where they were pursuing an ancient vampire through 900s Romania.. They had stormed the castle and freed the village but the vampire was still at large. That’s where our game begins.

I designed a character named Tiamond who is an Half-Orc Monk. And the other new player was also a Half-Orc though he was more brutish and simple. We decided we could be brothers who sought out the others at the Inn in order to join forces against the bad guy. I liked how this guy embraced the bother thing. He was really fun and nice about it - it was almost like I got to expereince what it’s like to have a real brother.

There was also a Sorcerer, a Cleric, and a Ranger. So a pretty diverse and solid team

Once the adventure started we used the ranger’s tracking skills and my ability to talk to animals to track the vampire, and spent two days on the road heading towards town. On the first night we were attacked by giant bats and on the second by giant vines! We fought off the bats and we struggled for some time with the vines before I remembered that the Ranger had said earlier he could talk to plants. I suggested he ask the vine what it wanted and through some clever dialogue we ended up soliciting the vine to protect our castle and the town so long as we agreed to propagate and protect it.

We shall meet next week and find out what’s in store in town.
